Avoid Breaking Public Trust, Beware of the Spread of Hoaxes
JAKARTA – The spread of hoaxes titled Indonesia Gelap and negative opinions regarding the revision of the TNI Law are increasingly proven to be systematic efforts to break public trust in state institutions.
The Indonesian National Armed Forces Headquarters (Mabes TNI) is responding seriously to the situation by providing full support to the Attorney General’s Office in thoroughly investigating the network of disseminators of misleading information.
The Head of the TNI Information Center (Kapuspen) Major General TNI Kristomei Sianturi stated that efforts to spread negative issues can break public trust and damage the image of state institutions.
The TNI emphasizes that it continues to prioritize a professional and legal attitude in facing all these threats.
“The TNI will always support the firm steps of law enforcement officers,” he said.
“Any form of action that can break public trust, damage the image of state institutions, or disrupt national stability will be faced with a professional, measured, and legal attitude,” he added.
The statement followed the confession of suspect Marcella Santoso in a press conference at the Attorney General’s Office Building, Tuesday (6/17/2025), who apologized for her role in spreading provocative content.
She also admitted that she was involved in the hoax narrative about Dark Indonesia and the Revision of the TNI Law.
Marcella is known to have played a role in a network that produces and spreads negative content, including targeting high-ranking state officials and the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
In handling the case, the TNI emphasized its commitment to continue to synergize with the police, prosecutors, and other institutions to ensure that the legal process runs transparently and accountably.
“We fully support the disclosure of the flow of funds, the buzzer network, and any parties involved,” said Kristomei.
The Director of Investigation at the Attorney General’s Office Abdul Qohar confirmed that Marcella and her group were proven to be involved in the efforts to spread the hoax.
“Because there is electronic evidence, we ask, what did she mean by creating the Dark Indonesia content, negative content? What is the connection with the TNI Bill, we don’t know, but those who know are those involved,” he said.
The TNI appealed to all levels of society to remain critical and wise in responding to information in the digital space.
Kristomei added that his party continues to support law enforcement efforts for national stability.
“The TNI ensures that it will continue to support every law enforcement effort for the sake of national stability,” he said.
Being vigilant against hoaxes is an important part of maintaining the integrity of the nation and maintaining trust in state institutions. (*)
