Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo received the highest award from the Palestinian government, the Grand Collar Order of the State of Palestine, which was handed over by the Special Envoy of the President of Palestine, Riyad Al Maliki at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi explained that the award was delivered directly by Presidential Special Envoy Mahmoud Abbas after a meeting with President Jokowi, last August.

This award was given as a form of recognition for Indonesia’s consistent support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence.

“The Special Envoy expressed President Mahmoud Abbas’s very high appreciation to the President of the Republic of Indonesia for Indonesia’s consistent position in supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people,” said Retno.

President Mahmoud Abbas appreciated Indonesia’s important role under President Jokowi’s leadership in supporting the Palestinian people, including Indonesia’s advocacy for a ceasefire, humanitarian assistance and a two-state solution.

“Mr President (Jokowi), among other things, conveyed clarity regarding Indonesia’s consistent position to continue to support the struggle of the Palestinian people. “Indonesia will also continue to advocate for a ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian assistance, and of course a two-state solution,” explained Retno.

When presenting the award, Riyad Al Maliki, Special Advisor to the President of Palestine, emphasized that this award was given as a form of respect for President Jokowi’s efforts in strengthening relations between Indonesia and Palestine and in supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom and independence.

The presentation of this award confirms the close diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Palestine, as well as Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestinian rights on the international stage.

According to him, Indonesia has always supported Palestine and condemned Israel’s crimes.

“For me, foreign ambassadors, the honorable Mr. President Jokowi and Mrs. Retno Marsudi are two heroes who are standing on the right side in the current conditions (the Israeli-Palestinian conflict),” said Ambassador Boroujerdi.

For information, in a bilateral meeting with the President of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Dennis Francis at the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) High Level Conference (KTT), President Jokowi again emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to global issues including Palestine .

President Jokowi appreciated the progress at the UN General Assembly regarding the status of Palestine, and assessed that the root of the conflict, namely Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian land, must be resolved.

“We must not stop here, the root of the conflict must be resolved, namely Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian land. “For this reason, the process at the UN general assembly must reflect efforts to achieve a two-state solution,” said President Jokowi, who also emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between UN agencies to help the Palestinian people.
