Jakarta – The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) will strictly continue to monitor the spread of all news and disinformation regarding the 2024 election on social media and the internet.

A member of the Batang Regency Bawaslu Division for Prevention, Community Participation and Public Relations, Khikmatun said that the vulnerability to disinformation related to the 2024 Election is still high.

Therefore, in an effort to anticipate it, it is necessary to collaborate with all elements of society and students by utilizing social media as an approach.

So that socialization against disinformation should not only be held in person, but also disseminated on the internet as well.

“Not only holding outreach to various communities, but through social media, Bawaslu together with young people, is active against spreading hoaxes,” he said.

Another effort made by Bawaslu is to appeal to the public to immediately be able to report if there is any information allegedly containing hoax content.

With reporting, of course the politicization of SARA and black campaigns can be anticipated.

Kikmatun explained that the public could report freely and the report would soon be followed up by Bawaslu to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.

“Please take a sample through the smartphone screen, include the address of the news link, immediately report it to the Batang Bawaslu social media. In stages, we will report to the Central Java Bawaslu to the RI Bawaslu, then directed to the RI Ministry of Communication and Informatics, so that the link will be closed,” he explained.

Concretely, the monitoring efforts carried out by Bawaslu on content on the internet and social media are using the Jarimu Watch Election application.

“This is a participatory surveillance digital community that invites you to join in one forum. It includes digital community monitoring, electoral literacy and fighting fake news,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Batang Pol Kesbangpol Agency, Agung Wisnu Barata emphasized that his party would establish a synergy with Bawaslu in providing a series of education to the public when using social media.

“A preventive measure, I, together with Bawaslu and law enforcement officials, will work together to monitor it. There will be education that will be conveyed that social media must be more ethical,” he said.

On another occasion, the Chairman of the Indonesian Election Supervisory Body, Rahmat Bagja, explained that he had formed a task force aimed at minimizing the spread of disinformation on social media regarding the 2024 Election.

Not only disinformation, but there are other things that should be minimized, such as hate speech to the issue of politicizing SARA.

“The task force was formed as an educational tool, a source of true/positive news to minimize hoaxes,” said Bagja.
