Jakarta – The Ministry of Investment and Downstream/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is working with the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) to prepare skilled and certified workers to support investment growth and the development of the downstream industry in Indonesia.
As a concrete step, the Minister of Investment and Downstream/Head of BKPM, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani met with the Minister of Manpower (Menaker), Yassierli at the BKPM office, Jakarta, on Thursday (6/3/2025). Both agreed on the importance of workforce readiness in facing the needs of modern industry and increasing national competitiveness.
“With increasing investment, especially in the downstream sector, skilled and certified workers are needed so that economic benefits can be felt more widely,” said Rosan.
Rosan added that the realization of investment entering Indonesia has a major impact on job creation. In the next five years, investment is projected to be able to create more than 2.6 million new jobs per year.
Last year, he added, with an investment realization of IDR 1,700 trillion, the workforce absorbed reached 2.45 million people. This figure is estimated to increase to 2.8-2.9 million people per year.
According to Rosan, the readiness of the workforce is the main factor in attracting investment. Investors do not only consider market potential, but also the availability of ready-to-use workers. Usually, investors build factories within two to three years, and at the same time the workforce must be ready.
Minister of Manpower Yassierli emphasized that the Ministry of Manpower has adequate training infrastructure to support improving the quality of the workforce.
“We have 303 Job Training Centers (BLK) throughout Indonesia that can be used to prepare workers according to industry needs,” he said.
In addition to training, Yassierli also highlighted the importance of workforce certification in order to compete in the national and international job markets.
“The National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) under the Ministry of Manpower is ready to guarantee the quality of certified workers so that they have global competitiveness,” he said.
As a follow-up, BKPM and Kemnaker will draft a technical cooperation agreement to optimize workforce training and data utilization to design policies based on industry needs.
Yassierli hopes that this synergy can increase workforce productivity, encourage more inclusive investment, and ensure the sustainability of national economic growth.
