Collective Optimism Reduces Provocation of “Dark Indonesia”

Jakarta – In facing the narrative of “dark Indonesia,” Deputy Chairman of the MUI, Dr. KH. Marsudi Syuhud, MM, and UI Political Communication Expert, Dr. Aditya Perdana, emphasized collaboration between moral-religious and effective communication strategies. Both agreed that rejecting provocation requires cross-institutional synergy.
Marsudi explained that excessive expectations often trigger a narrative of pessimism, especially amid global economic pressure.
“Pessimistic narratives often emerge when people’s expectations are not in line with reality, especially in conditions of economic pressure,” said Marsudi.
He emphasized that MUI will strengthen the message of optimism and togetherness through interfaith forums.
Aditya added that the government’s openness to criticism reflects the maturity of democracy.
“President Prabowo’s openness to criticism and input… shows a strong commitment to the principles of deliberative democracy,” he explained.
He believes that acknowledging weaknesses in public communication is the first step in building trust.
Both agreed to hold a series of public dialogues involving academics, religious figures and the media.
With this kind of collaboration, it is hoped that the public will not be easily trapped in the narrative of “dark Indonesia,” but will be encouraged to see opportunities and provide constructive input. Marsudi and Aditya are optimistic that the spirit of nationalism will grow stronger when communication and moral-religious go hand in hand. []
