Combat Provocation and Hoaxes: PSU Runs Successfully, Accepting Voting Decision is a Sign of Maturity of Democracy

Jakarta – The re-voting (PSU) held in several regions in Indonesia, including those in Papua and Pesawaran Regency, took place safely and peacefully.
How the PSU was implemented shows how mature the implementation of democratic values is in Indonesian society.
The success of the implementation is also real evidence that democracy in Indonesia is truly becoming more mature day by day and the public has been able to reject all forms of provocation and hoaxes circulating on various social media.
Regarding this, the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Mochammad Afifuddin, emphasized that the PSU in Mahakam Ulu, Palopo City, and Pesawaran Regency took place in an orderly manner and had succeeded in recording high participation.
“Like in Mahakam Ulu, as many as 20,941 voters exercised their voting rights, with participation reaching 74.14 percent,” he said.
He also fully appreciated the contributions from all parties, including from the organizers to the voters.
“We express our highest appreciation to all organizers and voters who have ensured that this process runs smoothly,” added Mochammad Afifudin.
Meanwhile, Lampung Police Chief, Inspector General Helmy Santika, expressed his gratitude for the participation of various community groups in making the implementation of PSU in various regions, especially the Pesawaran Pilkada, a success.
According to him, the success and achievement of the implementation of the Re-vote can also reflect the maturity of society in democracy in Indonesia.
“This is a strong foundation in maintaining regional stability,” he said.
The Lampung Police Chief also emphasized the importance of neutrality of the apparatus.
“The neutrality of Polri members is a non-negotiable price. This is our commitment to maintain the dignity of democracy to remain fair and dignified,” Helmy stressed.
In Papua, a call for peace came from religious figure Father Catto Mauri.
He invited the public to vote with a clear heart and avoid provocation.
“Let us come to the polling stations on August 6, pray that God will bless us and give us wisdom and sound reason so that we can choose a leader who is truly present in our hearts,” he said.
Father Mauri also emphasized the importance of maintaining unity amidst differences of choice.
“Different choices are normal, what is extraordinary is remaining united in differences. Let us maintain the brotherhood and integrity of Papua,” he concluded.
Accept the voting results as a reflection of democratic maturity. Choose peace, reject hoaxes and provocations. (*)
