Distribution of Honorary Teacher Allowances as a Form of Government Concern for Educators
Jakarta – The government has started distributing monthly allowances for honorary teachers of IDR 300 thousand per month starting from the new school year in July 2025. This program is part of the national strategy to improve the welfare and quality of educators, as announced in a series of commemorations of National Education Day 2025.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said that this allowance is given to all honorary teachers in Indonesia. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting non-PNS educators who have made a major contribution to educating the nation’s children.
“The government is aware of the important role of honorary teachers in our education system. With this allowance, we want to show that they are not forgotten,” said Abdul Mu’ti. He added that the distribution of the allowance is designed to be efficient and directly received by teachers who are entitled to receive it.
In addition to the monthly allowance, the government will also distribute educational assistance worth IDR 3 million per semester for honorary teachers who have not completed their D4 or S1 education. This assistance is targeted to reach around 12,000 teachers throughout Indonesia. This program is expected to improve the academic qualifications of teachers, which in turn will have a positive impact on the quality of learning in schools.
In East Java, the Head of the Education Office, Aries Agung Paewai, stated that his office is ready to support this policy and is waiting for technical instructions from the central government. He said that most likely the assistance will be channeled directly to teachers’ accounts, following the mechanism that has been running at the provincial level.
“The technical details are not yet detailed, but if we refer to the statement of the Minister of Education, the assistance will be channeled directly to teachers’ accounts. The East Java Provincial Government has also been using a similar pattern,” said Aries Agung Paewai. He also emphasized that all levels of the education office in East Java will ensure that the distribution of assistance runs smoothly and is right on target.
This educational allowance and assistance program is part of the strategic education policy that has been conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto. The government hopes that this step will be part of a comprehensive overhaul of the national education system, including restructuring the status and welfare of honorary teachers.
This concrete step has been welcomed positively by many groups, including education observers and teacher associations. They consider this policy to be a form of appreciation for the dedication of honorary teachers, as well as encouragement for them to continue to improve their competence.
With the commencement of the distribution of educational allowances and assistance in July 2025, the government is sending a strong signal that improving the quality of education begins with improving the welfare and quality of educators. This program is expected to not only provide direct benefits for honorary teachers, but also strengthen the foundation of Indonesian education in the long term.-
