Downstreaming: A Key Driver for Indonesia’s Progress Toward 2045

Jakarta – The government continues to demonstrate strong commitment in realizing the 2045 Golden Indonesia Vision. One of the main engines now at the center of national focus is industrial downstreaming. This program is not only a long-term economic development strategy, but also a game changer in driving inclusive and sustainable national growth.

Chairman of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bambang Patijaya, stated that downstreaming is a crucial part of the continuity of national leadership vision—from the foundations laid by President Joko Widodo to those being strengthened under President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, downstreaming is no longer a mere concept, but has become a real, structured program targeting fundamental issues.

“Downstreaming under President Prabowo’s administration is an ambitious program designed to address core challenges and attract investment. This is a major step toward positioning Indonesia as a new global economic power,” said Bambang during the 2025 Economic Update event.

He added that the designation of downstreaming as a national priority under the President’s Asta Cita agenda is a concrete expression of the government’s seriousness in adding value to domestic products. This policy is also believed to drive Indonesia’s structural economic transformation, create jobs, and expand export markets.

On the other hand, support for downstreaming also comes from the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), which is actively promoting the development of resource-based industries, especially in eastern Indonesia—a region still rich in untapped potential.

Head of the Agency for Standardization and Industrial Services Policy (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, affirmed that the Ministry continues to strengthen the industrial ecosystem in areas such as Maluku, through the optimization of services provided by the Industrial Services and Standardization Center (BSPJI) Ambon. This institution plays an active role in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in sectors such as marine product processing, essential oils, and non-timber forest products.

“This strategic initiative has proven to generate wide-reaching positive impacts on the national economy—from increased investment and exports to job creation,” said Andi.

In the first five months of 2025, BSPJI Ambon has delivered a wide range of services, including laboratory testing, halal product certification, the production of essential oil distillation units, and industrial consulting. This demonstrates that downstreaming not only stimulates the local economy but also helps address regional development disparities.

Head of BSPJI Ambon, Sony Fitriajaya, emphasized the institution’s commitment to strengthening industrial services in Eastern Indonesia. With the available facilities, BSPJI Ambon hopes to foster sustainable growth in both the manufacturing sector and small industries.

With strong collaboration between the legislative and executive branches, downstreaming is now a vital key to driving quality, equitable, and inclusive economic growth. It represents a tangible path toward Golden Indonesia 2045, fueled by value-added industries and the nation’s rich domestic resources.
