Jakarta – Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives Syamsu Rizal supports the steps of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi) to close inactive government websites and social media accounts.

This policy is considered important in preventing misuse of sites by online gambling actors (judol) and increasing national cyber security.

“This policy reflects the government’s seriousness in protecting the country’s digital assets and public data from the threat of cybercrime. This is a good momentum to accelerate a safe and integrated digital transformation,” said Syamsu Rizal.

As a member of the Judol Working Committee (Panja), Syamsu Rizal emphasized that many inactive government sites have been used by online gambling actors to operate illegally. Therefore, the steps taken by the Ministry of Communication and Digital is considered the right action and must be fully supported.

“We at the Judol Working Committee have seen firsthand how inactive government websites are being abused by judol perpetrators. This step by the Ministry of Communication and Digital is very appropriate and needs to be fully supported,” he explained.

However, Syamsu Rizal emphasized the importance of mapping the number of inactive sites and analyzing the causes, whether due to budget constraints, lack of human resources (HR), or other factors.

He urged regular monitoring of the security and activity of government websites. The House even suggested awards for innovative agencies and sanctions for those who are negligent in managing their websites.

“DPR Commission I is ready to support this policy through budget and oversight functions so that it can run sustainably,” he said.

Previously, the Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid asked for inactive government websites and social media accounts to be closed to prevent them from becoming targets of cyber attacks or being infiltrated by online gambling (judol).

“Friends of the government public relations bureau that we know also manage central and regional government sites, as well as central and regional government accounts. There should be no inactive accounts. If there are inactive government accounts, just close them,” said Meutya.

“Don’t let there be a government account, the account exists but is not managed properly and can actually become a source of problems,” he added.

Meutya said that accounts that rarely update and provide information have the potential to become targets for phishing attacks and online gambling (judol).

“Not doing updates, not providing information, I apologize if the website is often attacked, phishing enters online gambling sites,” he said.
