Jakarta – The Coordinating Ministry for Food (Kemenko Pangan) together with PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) gave appreciation to ports that have participated in the Green and Smart Port assessment. This step aims to implement environmentally friendly and digital principles and encourage optimization of sustainable ports to strengthen the national logistics system and food security in Indonesia.
The Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, expressed his appreciation for ports that have integrated the principles of green and smart ports in their operations. This is realized through climate change control, energy efficiency, digital port management and systems, and responsible environmental monitoring and management.
“This initiative is in line with the government’s commitment to achieving Net Zero Emission 2060 or sooner and strengthening the national supply chain. Sea transportation plays an important role in an efficient, sustainable, and safe food supply chain. Indonesia’s target to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2027 must be ensured through a national logistics system that is efficient, environmentally friendly, and based on modern technology,” said Zulkifli Hasan.
The five ports that have successfully passed the Green and Smart Port assessment in 2024 are PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Palembang, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 3 Sub Regional Bali Nusra Benoa Port, PT Bukit Asam Tbk Tarahan Port Unit, PT Pertamina Port and Logistics Shorebase Kabil Batam, and PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Semarang.
On the same occasion, the President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Rahmad Pribadi, visited the modern warehouse of the Fertilizer Bagging Unit (UPP) Semarang, Central Java. Rahmad directly reviewed the subsidized urea fertilizer bagging facility produced by PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang (Pusri). The UPP Semarang warehouse stands on an area of 13,945 square meters with a storage capacity of 10,500 tons. The subsidized fertilizer products from this warehouse meet the needs of 23 line III buffer warehouses in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).
Rahmad emphasized the importance of efficiency in the fertilizer logistics process. “The subsidized urea fertilizer was transported from Pusri by a ship owned by Pupuk Indonesia Logistik (PILog) which sailed for four days to Semarang. Here, the fertilizer was unloaded in bulk, then entered the warehouse managed by the Pupuk Indonesia logistics team,” he explained.
He ensured that the quality of the subsidized fertilizer was maintained with a bagging process that used an automatic bagging system. With this automation, the bagging process becomes faster and more accurate.
Pupuk Indonesia, as part of the Ministry of SOEs, continues to be committed to supporting food self-sufficiency, one of the priority agendas of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. “Every stage in the fertilizer logistics chain has a direct impact on the quality of agricultural products. Therefore, the entire Pupuk Indonesia logistics team must continue to maintain and improve performance so that farmers get the best quality fertilizer,” added Rahmad.
To date, Pupuk Indonesia has succeeded in distributing 694,639 tons of subsidized fertilizer to registered farmers. The details are 342,393 tons of urea, 325,165 tons of NPK, 4,249 tons of Special Formula NPK, and 22,832 tons of organic fertilizer.
In terms of stock, Pupuk Indonesia guarantees the availability of fertilizer with a total of 1,665,418 tons. This stock consists of 611,783 tons of subsidized urea fertilizer, 436,434 tons of NPK, 86,925 tons of non-subsidized urea fertilizer, and 31,675 tons of non-subsidized NPK. The amount of fertilizer stock is equivalent to 362 percent and 251 percent of the minimum requirements set by the government.
Through the optimization of an efficient and modern fertilizer logistics system, it is hoped that fertilizer distribution can be smoother so that Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency target in 2027 can be realized soon.
