Foreign Investors Explore Investment Opportunities in MBG Program

Jakarta – The Free Nutritional Meal Program (MBG), launched by President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, has begun attracting the attention of foreign investors. Several global companies from various sectors, including food and healthcare industries, are exploring investment opportunities in this program.

This move is believed to strengthen national food security and provide widespread benefits for society, particularly for school-aged children, who are the primary target of the program.

The Charge d’Affaires (CDA) of the Polish Embassy to Indonesia, Maciej Tumulec, stated that Poland, as one of Indonesia’s strategic partners in the European Union, sees investment opportunities in the MBG program and the development of 3 million homes annually for low-income communities.

“We have already begun promoting what we can do in relation to the free meal program. We are ready to assist Indonesia by sharing our experience in implementing this program,” he said.

Foreign investors’ involvement can also create opportunities for local entrepreneurs, especially Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), to become part of the program’s supply chain. With investments, the distribution of nutritious food across the country can be carried out more effectively and sustainably.

Australia’s Business Champion for Indonesia, Jennifer Westacott, highlighted the significant opportunity for Australian businesses to engage in the MBG program. Australian companies have also begun expressing interest in the program during their current visit to Indonesia.

“There’s a huge opportunity for Australian businesses to get involved in this program. Everyone is excited about this. If you just look at the scale—80 million lunches a day—if you calculate it considering everything in that lunch box, there’s a massive supply chain involved,” Westacott said.

The Chairman of the Depok City Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), Ade Supriyatna, emphasized that the MBG program is not just an effort to meet children’s nutritional needs, but also a long-term investment to build a healthier, smarter, and more competitive generation in the future.

“This is an exciting program, something that hasn’t been seen before in Indonesia, to the best of my knowledge. The enthusiasm from the community and students strongly supports this program,” he stated.

The government continues to oversee the investment process to ensure it aligns with the principles of food sovereignty and support for local farmers. With synergy between the government, investors, and domestic entrepreneurs, the MBG program is expected to become a significant milestone in building national food security and improving the quality of life for the nation’s future generations.
