Jakarta – The government through the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) has reaffirmed its strong commitment to protecting and empowering Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

Deputy Minister of P2MI, Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla, said that the institutional transformation of KemenP2MI is a strategic step to ensure comprehensive protection for PMI, starting from the departure process to retirement. “We are determined to improve the quality of protection with an integrated approach that involves all stakeholders,” he said at the 2025 Caritas Indonesia Network National Meeting in Jakarta.

Dzulfikar explained that in addition to protection, the government is focused on optimizing the placement of skilled PMI in order to improve worker welfare while encouraging the growth of the country’s foreign exchange. “This is a real form of government support for PMI as an important part of national development,” he added.

The government also appreciates the active role of Caritas Indonesia in supporting the protection of migrant workers, refugees, and the eradication of human trafficking through education programs, coordination, and campaigns. “This collaboration is very important in realizing effective and sustainable protection,” said Dzulfikar.

The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including the Director of Caritas Indonesia, Father Fredy Rante Taruk, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KemenP2MI, emphasizing the synergy of all parties to ensure that the rights and safety of Indonesian migrant workers are well protected.

In addition, the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin), also highlighted the importance of strengthening services, supervision, guidance, data collection, and forgiveness for Indonesian citizens or Indonesian migrant workers throughout the world, especially Malaysia. “We must ensure that migrant workers receive optimal protection, both domestically and abroad,” said Cak Imin during his visit to Kuala Lumpur in April 2025.

As part of the national commitment, all elements of society and government are expected to continue to work together in supporting efforts to protect and empower Indonesian migrant workers. With solid cooperation, protection of Indonesian migrant workers is not only the responsibility of the government alone, but also a shared concern for a better future for Indonesian migrant workers and their families.

The government also continues to strive to develop a reliable information technology system to facilitate access to services and complaints for migrant workers worldwide. This is real evidence that protection for migrant workers is not only physical, but also through digital innovation that facilitates real-time communication and supervision, so that the rights of migrant workers can be optimally maintained.
