Government and Private Sector Synergy: Strengthening .id Domain Monitoring to Combat Online Gambling

Jakarta – The Indonesian Internet Domain Name Registry (PANDI) continues to enhance efforts to eradicate illegal content, including online gambling, by utilizing a specialized analysis platform. PANDI Chairman, John Sihar Simanjuntak, revealed that in collaboration with the government, they have developed an application called IDADX to detect and analyze the misuse of .id-ending domains.

“We have developed an application called IDADX. It is specifically designed to detect and analyze content from websites, particularly those under the .id domain,” said John.

John emphasized that the application, launched last year, functions to identify and remove illegal content infiltrating websites with the .id domain. However, he clarified that PANDI only has authority over .id domains and cannot access domains outside its jurisdiction.

“If it’s under .id, we can access and review the content. So, if it falls under the .id domain, we can clean it up,” he explained.

Every day, PANDI collects data through a crawling method to monitor and detect potential violations. If a violation is found, they issue a warning to the domain administrator via email or messaging applications.

“We detect it first, then they check, clean, and remove the violating content from websites with .id domains,” he added.

If there is no response from the website administrator within three days, PANDI will temporarily deactivate the domain until the administrator reports that the content has been removed. Once the verification process is completed, the domain can be reactivated.

John noted that PANDI successfully cleanses more than 12,000 websites containing illegal content each month. He hopes that with strong collaboration between PANDI and website administrators, the spread of prohibited content, including online gambling, can be addressed more swiftly and effectively.

Meanwhile, the government continues its efforts to combat online gambling through various strategic measures. The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) actively blocks online gambling sites that violate regulations.

“We are working with various parties, including PANDI and law enforcement authorities, to ensure that online gambling is minimized as much as possible,” said Budi.
