Jakarta — The government has succeeded in collaborating with several parties from the private sector to commit to helping the government eradicate illegal online lending practices (pinjol) and misuse of fintech funds for online gambling.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Joint Funding Fintech Association (AFPI), Entjik S Djafar, emphasized that the association is not only focused on combating illegal pinjol, but also avoiding financing used for online gambling activities.
“We are both hostile to illegal pinjol, illegal pinjol is the first, sir. Secondly, we have also given direction several years ago to all members to detect that this loan is not used for pinjol, Judol, “said Entjik in a meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Concrete steps taken by AFPI in supporting efforts to eradicate online gambling include education and literacy to various regions.
According to Entjik, AFPI together with its members have been actively conducting socialization to the public to be wise in using online loan services. In addition, education about the dangers of online gambling is also a main focus.
“We have done literacy, we have done almost all education. Indeed, this year we plan to go to Ambon, the plan. We have been in Sulawesi, there was a talk earlier, South Sulawesi in Makassar,” he said.
In addition to involving local communities, AFPI also collaborates with various parties in conducting education, one of which is the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI).
Through this collaboration, AFPI provides education to communities and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) so that they better understand the risks of online loans and avoid using them for illegal activities.
“We also provide education to communities and several MSME communities and so on,” added Entjik.
The role of the private sector in combating online gambling has received appreciation from various parties, including the government. Through solid collaboration between the government and fintech associations, it is hoped that public understanding of safe online loans can increase, while minimizing the risk of misuse of funds for gambling activities.
In the midst of the government’s aggressive eradication of online gambling, the involvement of the private sector such as AFPI is considered important to strengthen a healthy and safe digital financial ecosystem. Cooperation with HIPMI and various UMKM communities also shows AFPI’s real commitment to realizing inclusive and responsible financial literacy.
With these strategic steps, AFPI hopes to support the government in creating a digital environment free from illegal online loans and online gambling. []
