Government Anticipates the Impact of Layoffs with Strategic Measures

Jakarta – The government is acting swiftly to anticipate the impact of layoffs (PHK) with various strategic measures to protect workers and maintain national economic stability. Several policies have been prepared to ensure that workers affected by layoffs receive optimal protection.

Minister of Manpower Yassierli emphasized that the Employment Loss Guarantee (JKP) policy has been strengthened to provide financial protection, job training, and assistance with finding new employment for affected workers. This program is designed to ensure that workers who lose their jobs still have the opportunity to find new employment or start their own business.

“We ensure that workers who are laid off continue to receive support so they can return to work with better skills,” said Yassierli in Jakarta.

As an additional precautionary step, the government has established a special task force to monitor labor conditions and take preventive actions to prevent a surge in unemployment.

“The government will continue to seek the best solutions to ensure workers remain prosperous and the national economy remains stable,” Yassierli added.

In addition, the government is collaborating with the private sector to expand job opportunities in various sectors such as manufacturing, services, and the creative economy. Several partnership programs have been developed to accelerate the absorption of labor.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita added that the manufacturing sector continues to grow and has absorbed more than one million new workers in 2024, far exceeding the number of workers who were laid off. This proves that the national industry remains a key pillar in creating job opportunities.

“The manufacturing industry remains a mainstay in absorbing labor, and the government will continue to maintain a conducive business climate so that businesses can continue to grow,” said Agus.

Moreover, vocational training and entrepreneurship programs are also being strengthened to enable workers to enhance their skills or even start their own businesses. The government is committed to providing guidance for those who wish to transition into the entrepreneurial sector.
