Government Brings Investors, Former Sritex Workers Will Return to Work
Thousands of former workers of PT Sri Rejeki Isman (Sritex) will return to work after a new investor came in, thanks to government assistance in finding a solution to the bankruptcy of the textile company. Minister of Manpower Yassierli confirmed that the signing of the work contract had been carried out by former Sritex workers with the new investor.
“It has been confirmed that the signing of the work contract for former Sritex group workers to return to work with the investor,” said Yassierli
Furthermore, he explained that the operational process would be the authority of the new investor.
“To begin with, of course there are preparations related to operations and then we will hand over the domain to the investor,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Industry and Manpower Service (Disperin-Naker) of Sukoharjo Regency, Sumarno, revealed that his party had established communication with prospective investors. The investor plans to recruit more than 5,000 employees in the first phase.
“For now, the report from prospective investors is 5,000 for the first phase. Later, further recruitment will be carried out,” said Sumarno.
New investors also plan to reactivate the entire production chain previously managed by PT Sritex. Thus, it is hoped that all former workers can regain their livelihoods.
“Various, from spinning, weaving, then from garments and also finishing. I think this can cover all departments,” said Sumarno.
He also assessed that the next technical steps would be the business of investors and curators.
“We were only given a report as regional stakeholders. The implementation issue is the business of investors and curators. Because this is the domain of the curator,” he explained.
As is known, PT Sritex has stopped operations since March 1 after being declared bankrupt by the court due to a debt burden of IDR 29.8 trillion.
Now, with the presence of new investors, the hope for thousands of workers to have jobs again is open.
