Government Cooperates with Private Sector to Combat Online Gambling

Jakarta – The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is collaborating with digital platforms such as Gojek, Google, and TikTok to fight against online gambling (judol).
“Today we are invited by GoTo, there is also Google, there is also TikTok, opsel, and others. In principle, we understand that first, the fight against online gambling is continuous work, not a momentary work. Second, we understand that the government cannot do it alone,” said Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid.
“So it must be assisted by stakeholders, especially platform owners, and of course payment gateways, there was also GoPay,” she added.
Meutya said that eradicating judol not only requires a technological approach, but also a massive educational approach to the community.
In launching the movement, Gojek collaborated with its partners to provide education on the dangers of judol to the community.
High mobility and direct interaction with the wider community make Gojek driver partners have an important role as education and socialization agents regarding the dangers of online gambling activities in their surroundings.
“I came here to ask for help. Because I believe that Gojek driver friends are also the ones who meet the most with the community. Delivering goods, yes, helping people, yes, as well as socializing (the dangers of gambling),” said Meutya.
In addition to asking for help from driver partners, this initiative will also deploy educational cars that will go around the community.
“We want the number of online gambling to drop significantly. The key is to strengthen public understanding, starting from the closest environment. We hope that Gojek driver partners can help educate the public about the dangers of online gambling,” she added.
Furthermore, education and socialization are carried out by the Gambling Alliance Certainly Rugi holistically, starting from the social media platform @judipastirugi to a series of online education together with the wider community throughout Indonesia.
On the same occasion, GoTo President Director Patrick Walujo said that the formation of the Gambling Alliance Certainly Rugi is a continuation of GoPay’s commitment to eradicating online gambling through educational content that is easy to understand and reaches all levels of society.
“Eradicating online gambling requires the participation of all parties. Therefore, we formed the Gambling Alliance Certainly Rugi as a forum to unite our strengths together to educate the public about the dangers of online gambling,” he said.
“This movement also involves the participation of the closest family members to remind each other and prevent other family members from getting involved in gambling,” he added.
