Government Ensures Fuel Quality, No Manipulation, All in Compliance with Regulations

Jakarta – The government, through various relevant institutions, including the Attorney General’s Office and Pertamina, has confirmed that the quality of fuel circulating in the market remains in line with applicable regulations. The government assures the public that all fuel products sold have undergone strict monitoring processes to ensure their quality and safety.

In response to concerns about potential fuel manipulation, the Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office, Harli Siregar, urged the public to remain calm and not be worried about the issue. He explained that the corruption case currently being investigated pertains to the period from 2018 to 2023.

“We want to assure the public to stay calm, as the investigation is related to the alleged corruption in the importation of crude oil and refinery products at Pertamina from 2018 to 2023,” Harli stated.

Based on this, Harli also clarified that the public’s assumption that the current RON 92 fuel, such as Pertamax, circulating in the market is a result of mixing (blending) is inaccurate. The fuel that was previously blended or mixed by the concerned parties to achieve a higher quality has already been used up.

“The blended fuel has been used up, so there is no need to think that the fuel currently being used is a mixture. That is not correct,” he said.

Additionally, Harli explained that the legal aspects of the corruption case have now been resolved. Therefore, he requested that the public not misinterpret the issue and remain calm.

Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Corporate Secretary, Heppy Wulansari, emphasized that there is no practice of mixing Pertamax fuel. The quality of Pertamax is guaranteed to comply with government specifications, which is RON 92.

“The products entering Pertamina’s fuel terminals are finished products that comply with their respective RON. Pertalite has RON 90, and Pertamax has RON 92. The specifications of the products distributed to the public from the Pertamina terminal from the start are in accordance with government regulations,” said Heppy.

He explained that the treatment done at the main fuel terminals is limited to the injection of color (dyes) to differentiate the products for easy identification by the public. Additionally, there is the injection of additives designed to enhance the performance of Pertamax.

“So, this is not a mixing process or changing the RON. The public need not worry about the quality of Pertamax,” Heppy concluded.
