Government Guarantees Security in Yahukimo After OPM Attacks Under Control

Papua Pegunungan – The security situation in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, is gradually recovering after an attack by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Anggruk District. The local government together with security forces ensured that conditions in the area were conducive and under control.

Yahukimo Regent, Didimus Yahuli, went directly to the scene to provide security assurance to the residents who had been displaced by the attack. He asked residents not to be afraid and to return to their homes.

“I want to say a few things. First, for the children here and the community, don’t be afraid. I am here with you. So, those who have gone out to the outskirts, please come back,” said Regent Yahuli).

During his visit, Regent Yahuli was accompanied by the Dandim and the local Kapolres. They reviewed the condition of the school burned by the KKB and discussed with residents to ensure the recovery of the situation went well.

In addition to providing security guarantees, Regent Yahuli also emphasized that law enforcement officers will continue to try to catch the perpetrators and enforce the law as fairly as possible.

“I agree with the Dandim and the Kapolres, we agree to pursue and arrest the perpetrators for the sake of law enforcement and obtaining the fairest possible justice,” he stressed.

The attack carried out by the OPM through the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) resulted in six educators and health workers becoming fatalities. The OPM claimed their action was a reaction to the statement by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto who said that the TNI also played a role as educators and medical personnel in Papua.

The Papua Police Chief through the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Senior Commissioner Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, ensured that the conditions in Yahukimo are now conducive. The people who had fled to the forest are gradually returning to their homes.

“The Yahukimo regional government has formed a team involving community leaders, religious leaders, and students to find facts about the events of March 21, 2025. This team will also work with security forces in the process of enforcing the law against the perpetrators of murder, abuse, and arson that occurred in Anggruk District,” explained Senior Commissioner Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo.

Yahukimo Police Chief, AKBP Heru, added that joint TNI-Polri officers were still sterilizing and restoring the situation in Anggruk District to ensure the safety of residents.

“Currently, the people who had fled to the forest are starting to return to their respective honai. The situation is gradually becoming conducive and under control,” said AKBP Heru.

The local government and security forces continue to coordinate to ensure security stability in Yahukimo. Law enforcement efforts will be carried out by continuing to prioritize a persuasive approach so that the community feels safe and can return to normal daily activities.
