Government Increases International Cooperation to Eradicate Cross-Country Online Gambling

Jakarta – In order to strengthen efforts to eradicate online gambling and other transnational crimes, President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the Indonesian government’s commitment to establishing closer cooperation with Thailand.
This was conveyed during Prabowo’s state visit to Bangkok on May 19, 2025, which also marked the first visit by an Indonesian President to Thailand in the last two decades.
“We discussed the issue of transnational crime, especially online fraud networks and also human trafficking, as well as drug trafficking,” Prabowo said in a press conference at Government House, Bangkok.
He emphasized that this cooperation is part of a collective effort to improve the security and defense of both countries.
Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for the Thai government’s firm steps in handling cases involving Indonesian citizens.
“I would like to thank Thailand for its firm steps in dealing with these matters and assisting Indonesia in returning the affected Indonesian citizens,” he said.
This cooperation is not only limited to tackling online gambling, but also includes increasing collaboration in various security sectors.
“We also want to increase maritime security collaboration, strengthen counter-terrorism efforts, cyber security cooperation, and increase joint military exercises and defense industry cooperation,” Prabowo added.
He emphasized that cooperation platforms such as the High Level Committee and Annual Security Dialogue will be maximized.
The Indonesian government itself has shown its seriousness in eradicating online gambling practices through various concrete steps. The Ministry of Communication Digila (Komdigi), for example, actively blocks thousands of online gambling sites and applications every month.
In addition, a special Task Force (Satgas) formed by the government also works together with the police, OJK, and PPATK in tracing the flow of funds and prosecuting perpetrators, including those in elite circles.
With regional cooperation such as that established with Thailand, Indonesia is expanding its reach in eradicating cross-border online gambling. This effort is a form of the government’s seriousness in protecting the community from the social and economic impacts caused by these illegal activities.
