JAKARTA – The government continues to strengthen digital supervision to prevent the rampant practice of online gambling that is detrimental to society.

The Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, revealed that more than 882,000 online gambling-related content has been successfully blocked in the first 100 days of the government’s work.

“Kemkomdigi has taken down 882,352 judol-related content from various digital platforms,” said Meutya.

Of that number, 807,587 content came from websites and IP addresses, while the rest were spread across various other social media platforms.

Meutya emphasized that online gambling is a serious threat that must be eradicated to the roots in order to protect society from detrimental social and economic impacts.

“This step certainly further narrows the scope of movement of perpetrators who often target the community, including vulnerable groups,” she explained.

To support the eradication of online gambling, Kemkomdigi has opened a reporting channel for the public through a special service channel.

The Number Complaint Portal is also available for the public to report misuse of mobile numbers and bank accounts related to digital crimes.

“The fight against online gambling is like closing a gap in a dam. If one leak is closed, another can appear. However, with the government’s assertiveness and community involvement, every gap can be patched until the flow of this digital crime is completely stopped,” said Meutya.

In addition to the efforts of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, the Malang Financial Services Authority (OJK) also plays an active role in eradicating online gambling which has an impact on the financial sector.

As of early January 2025, 8,500 accounts suspected of being related to online gambling have been blocked.

“We are working with the Ministry of Communication and Digital and banking to detect and block the accounts involved,” explained the Head of the Malang OJK, Biger A. Maghribi.

According to Biger, this process involves the use of Population Identity Number data and the implementation of Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).

In addition to blocking accounts, OJK also held discussions with banks to improve early detection capabilities for accounts suspected of illegal activity, including monitoring dormant accounts that are often used for illegal transactions.

“This supervision is not only aimed at breaking the chain of illegal transactions, but also increasing public literacy regarding the risks of online gambling,” he added.

The Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager (PANDI) also supports efforts to eradicate online gambling through the Indonesia Domain Abuse Data Exchange (IDADX) platform.

PANDI Chairman, John Sihar Simanjuntak, revealed that throughout 2024, 89,975 URLs infiltrated with online gambling content had been identified and followed up.

“When abuse is found, we immediately provide notification and carry out a suspension procedure for the domain,” said John.
