Government Opens Recruitment for 1,500 Teacher Vacancies for People’s School Program

Jakarta – The government has officially opened recruitment for 1,500 teacher vacancies in order to strengthen the implementation of the People’s School Program which is currently being promoted in various regions. This step is part of the national commitment to increasing access to quality education, especially in disadvantaged, outermost, and frontier (3T) regions, as well as regions that have faced challenges in providing adequate teaching staff.
The People’s School Program is a strategic initiative designed to address the community’s need for inclusive, affordable, and local potential-oriented primary and secondary education.
In supporting the expansion of this program, the government recognizes that the availability of competent and dedicated teaching staff is a key element of success. Therefore, the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has begun recruiting teachers for the People’s School.
Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Ministry of Social Affairs Robben Rico said that there were 1,554 functional positions for the first expert teachers that were opened, and would be spread across 100 locations in the first stage of the implementation of the People’s School.
Accepted teacher candidates will be placed in various regions with priority given to locations that still lack teaching staff. The main requirement for teachers to take part in this selection is to have a Teacher Professional Education (PPG) certificate.
“To fulfill the learning process in the People’s School, of course we both know, teachers are needed. As a stage of the appointment of the teacher, there needs to be a selection of prospective teachers,” said Robben.
They will be tasked with teaching subjects that cover academic mastery, character development, leadership, and life skills.
As a form of cross-ministerial synergy, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education also took strategic steps.
“We will prepare three times the number of teacher candidates, which is around 4,500 teachers who are graduates of the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program who are still fresh graduates. They will be selected by a team from the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos). The selection process will consider character, certification, and readiness to live in a dormitory environment with students,” said Director General of GTK-PG, Nunuk Suryani
Through this concrete step, the government reaffirms its commitment to making education a basic right that must be accessed by all children of the nation. The People’s School Program and teacher recruitment are not only about opening schools in remote areas, but also about paving the way to a more just, intelligent, and civilized future.
