Government Promotes Innovation and Technology for National Economic Equality

Jakarta – The Indonesian government continues to encourage innovation and the utilization of technology as a key strategy in achieving national economic equality. One of the concrete steps taken is the opening of the 6 GHz frequency spectrum for Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 technologies. This initiative aims to accelerate digital transformation and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s technology industry.
The Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, stated that the launch of Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 marks a significant milestone for Indonesia in adopting globally recognized technology standards. This innovation is also part of the efforts of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, which aims to prioritize digitalization as a key element in national development.
“By adopting Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 in the 6 GHz frequency band, Indonesia is positioning itself strategically on the global digital map. This is a tangible proof of our commitment to pushing digital transformation as a national agenda,” Meutya said during the launch event at the Langham Hotel in Jakarta.
Meutya explained that Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 offer speeds of up to 46 Gbps with low latency and more reliable performance, especially in densely populated environments. This technology will support various digital innovations, including ultra-HD video, cloud computing, virtual reality (VR/AR), and artificial intelligence (AI)-based automation.
“Digital transformation cannot wait. With this new regulation, we ensure that Indonesia’s digital infrastructure is ready to face the future,” she added.
As part of the supporting policy, the government has issued Ministerial Regulation Number 2 of 2025, which regulates the use of radio frequency spectrum based on class licensing, as well as Ministerial Decree Number 12 of 2025, which sets standards for telecommunication device specifications.
“With the opening of the 6 GHz spectrum, Indonesia becomes one of the pioneers in the Asia-Pacific region in adopting Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7. This will bring a significant increase in internet speed and reliability across the country,” explained Meutya.
To ensure that devices using the 6 GHz frequency band operate without interfering with other services, the government has set strict testing standards. Device testing can be done at Indonesia’s Digital Test House (IDTH) or the Telecommunications Device Testing Center (BBPPT), which is under the Ministry of Communication and Digital. However, devices that have been tested by other government-recognized testing laboratories or come from countries with a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) with Indonesia are not required to undergo re-testing at IDTH.
“We ensure that all devices used comply with global standards and do not cause interference. With a flexible and standardized testing system, the industry can adopt this technology more quickly,” emphasized Meutya.
The government is also inviting all stakeholders, including industry sectors, academia, and the public, to jointly utilize this technology to support the development of the digital economy. Meutya stressed that Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 are not just technological innovations but also serve as a driving force for the growth of startups and technology-based businesses in Indonesia.
The launch of this latest Wi-Fi technology is expected to boost the national digital competitiveness. With more advanced network infrastructure, local technology companies will find it easier to develop innovative products and services that can compete in the global market.
This success also reflects Indonesia’s readiness to face the challenges and opportunities of the digital era. With faster and more stable connectivity, society will be more prepared for a future that is more connected, innovative, and highly competitive.
