PAPUA – The government has reaffirmed that the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) program will continue in Papua despite threats from the Free Papua Movement (OPM).

Security forces have tightened measures to ensure the safety of educators and students in the region.

Presidential Communication Office Head Hasan Nasbi emphasized that OPM’s threats against schools benefiting from the MBG program will not halt its implementation. He assured that the government is present to maintain security and ensure the welfare of the Papuan people.

“MBG is a universal program carried out across Indonesia, including in Papua. If there are such threats, they will face the TNI/Polri,” Hasan stated in a written statement from Jakarta on Wednesday.

Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin also emphasized that the MBG program in Papua will not be influenced by political issues stirred by certain groups. He stressed that the program is part of a humanitarian mission that must continue without hindrance.

“Since the situation is not yet good and not conducive, we need to make sure that the kitchens are operated by TNI Army’s territorial task forces,” he said.

The government also continues to evaluate and improve the program to ensure it provides more effective benefits for the community.

Meanwhile, TNI’s Head of Information Center, Major General Hariyanto, stated that the TNI has increased security at schools located in areas vulnerable to OPM activities.

“Security for educational facilities, including schools in areas prone to OPM activity, is a serious concern for the TNI,” he emphasized.

He also added that routine patrols have been stepped up, and preventive measures continue to be taken to maintain security stability.

The government assures that OPM’s terror will not hinder development efforts in Papua, including ensuring proper nutrition for schoolchildren. Cooperation between the government, security forces, and the public continues to be strengthened to ensure the situation remains safe and conducive.
