JAKARTA — The government’s efforts to combat online gambling (Judol) continue to intensify. Recently, the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police successfully uncovered an online gambling hub disguised as a coffee shop in West Jakarta.

The Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metro Police, Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi, stated that the case began with a cyber patrol conducted by Unit 2 of Subdirectorate Tahbang/Resmob in early April 2025. Officers discovered suspicious activity through an online gambling website with deposit accounts under the names SBU and JPM.

“The modus operandi was to set up an online gambling website with deposit account numbers under the names SBU and JPM,” explained Ade Ary.

The police initially visited a location in South Tangerang but did not find the suspects. The investigation continued, and the team eventually apprehended two suspects, SBU and JPM, in Kalideres, West Jakarta.

“The Operations Team from Unit 2 Subdit 3 Tahbang/Resmob arrested the suspects, named SBU and JPM, on Prima I Street, RT 9/RW 11, Tegal Alur, Kalideres District, West Jakarta,” Ade Ary added.

The two suspects were found to have distinct roles. SBU acted as the administrator managing the slot scamming site, while JPM was responsible for providing and maintaining the website. Police seized two accounts under the suspects’ names, one laptop, and three mobile phones during the arrest.

Both suspects are charged under Article 303 of the Penal Code and/or Article 45 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 27 paragraph (2) of Law No. 1/2016 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions.

Meanwhile, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) revealed a new trend in online gambling transactions, now increasingly utilizing cryptocurrencies and QRIS.

“Banking and e-wallet transactions for online gambling are being monitored closely,” said the PPATK’s Head of Public Relations Group, Natsir Kongah.

He stressed the importance of collaboration among all parties in this effort to eliminate online gambling.

“Collaboration, hard work, and effective action from law enforcement and other stakeholders are essential. The role of the public in avoiding gambling is crucial in reducing gambling rates,” Natsir emphasized.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling online gambling as thoroughly as possible. However, public support and awareness remain the key to the success of these efforts.
