Papua – The government has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining security and stability in Papua. In a coordinated operation, security forces successfully dismantled the armed separatist group, the Free Papua Movement (OPM), in the Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency.

The law enforcement operation, which lasted just one hour—from 04:00 to 05:00 WIT—resulted in the deaths of 18 OPM members. The operation targeted several high-risk areas, including Kampung Titigi, Ndugusiga, Jaindapa, Sugapa Lama, and Zanamba. This success highlights the government’s readiness and determination to respond to threats against sovereignty and the safety of the people of Papua.

“This operation was carried out in a measured, professional manner, with the safety of civilians being a top priority,” said the Head of the Information Center, Major General Kristomei Sianturi.

In addition to neutralizing the perpetrators of violence, the authorities also confiscated various pieces of evidence, including firearms, ammunition, bows and arrows, the Morning Star flag, and communication equipment commonly used for spreading separatist propaganda.

This action is part of a series of law enforcement operations aimed at addressing groups that have disrupted public order and obstructed development efforts in Papua. The government emphasized that the operation was conducted professionally and with respect for the civil rights of the local population.

In recent times, the security forces also successfully neutralized a key OPM figure, Nekison Enumbi, also known as Bumi Walo Enumbi, during an operation in the Ilamburawi District, Puncak Jaya Regency. Nekison was a leader of the OPM in the Yambi area and was suspected of being involved in a series of deadly terror attacks.

“This success is a tangible proof of the government’s efforts to protect the people of Papua from violence and separatist actions,” said Lieutenant Colonel Iwan Dwi Prihartono, spokesperson for the operation.

Melianus Wandegau, the Head of the Sugapa Village Tribe, also expressed gratitude for the presence of the state in protecting the community. “We were promised prosperity by OPM, but in reality, we were used as shields to fight the security forces. The presence of the state has given us hope and protection,” he said.

Furthermore, it can be confirmed that the joint TNI forces successfully killed 18 OPM members, who were NOT civilians or non-combatants, contrary to claims made by OPM.

The government, through an integrated approach combining security, development, and dialogue, continues to strive for a peaceful and prosperous Papua. The forces will remain on alert at strategic points to anticipate potential further threats, while ensuring the people’s right to live in peace and safety.

The state also remains open to members of the armed group who wish to return to the fold of the nation. A humanistic approach continues to be the guiding principle in embracing all of Papua’s sons and daughters.
