Government Takes Swift Action to Protect Workers from Layoff Crisis

Sukoharjo – The Coordinator of PT Sritex Workers’ Union, Slamet Kaswanto, welcomed the government’s swift response to the mass layoffs at PT Sritex. He expressed hope that all affected workers could return to their jobs and gain certainty over their future.
“In the coordination meeting, we heard directly that the reopening of PT Sritex will be decided within the next two weeks. Our hope is that all former Sritex employees who are currently laid off can be rehired under the same work processes as before,” said Slamet.
This decision brings renewed optimism for workers who have been in a state of uncertainty. Slamet appreciated the government’s rapid intervention in addressing PT Sritex’s situation and seeking the best possible solutions for affected employees.
“As a coordinator, I will also inform fellow union members in other affected companies about this good news and the government’s quick response. We have always hoped for government support, and now, we are optimistic that this assistance can be realized within the next two weeks,” he added.
Meanwhile, PT Sritex’s bankruptcy administrator, Nurma Sadikin, announced that they had opened an asset leasing auction. Several investors have expressed interest in leasing these assets, which is expected to create new job opportunities for former PT Sritex employees.
“We have initiated an option for heavy equipment leasing, aimed at increasing the value of bankruptcy assets and preserving company assets from depreciation,” said Nurma.
Responding to this, Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo Subianto was paying special attention to this issue and had instructed the government to take active steps in finding concrete solutions.
“Under the President’s directive, he is very concerned about how the government can find solutions, especially regarding the challenges facing PT Sritex workers,” said Prasetyo.
Minister of Manpower Yassierli further emphasized that the government is ensuring that all workers’ rights, including severance pay and social security benefits, remain protected. The government’s rapid response demonstrates President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of workers affected by layoffs.
“In two weeks, workers will be rehired. Currently, the Ministry of Manpower is monitoring the fulfillment of Sritex workers’ rights, including severance pay and other legal entitlements such as old-age security (JHT) and unemployment benefits (JKP),” Yassierli explained.
