JAKARTA – The spirit of mutual cooperation and synergy between agencies has been key in handling the floods that have affected Jabodetabek. The government’s rapid response, public support, and cross-sector coordination demonstrate that collective efforts can expedite the recovery process in the affected areas. This collaboration reflects solidarity in the face of disaster.

Disaster response teams from the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) were deployed to various flood-affected areas in Jakarta, Bekasi, and Bogor. This step is part of an effort to accelerate disaster response involving multiple parties. Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf, emphasized that Kemensos is focusing on two main clusters: logistics and shelter locations, to ensure the basic needs of evacuees are met.

“We have distributed various aid, such as mattresses, clothing, ready-to-eat meals, and set up community kitchens in several affected areas,” said Saifullah Yusuf.

The process of victim data collection and flood impact assessment continues to ensure accurate data before it is officially reported. Intensive coordination with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has been carried out in the evacuation process to ensure that every affected citizen receives appropriate assistance.

Meanwhile, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati, stated that the agency is conducting weather modification efforts to reduce rainfall intensity in the affected areas. This technology is expected to minimize rainfall in flood-prone areas.

“This weather modification is carried out in coordination with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture and BNPB, and it will continue to be evaluated to ensure its effectiveness,” explained Dwikorita Karnawati.

This mitigation effort is hoped to reduce the risk of subsequent flooding and give residents time to carry out cleanup efforts in their respective areas.

On the other hand, Head of BNPB, Lieutenant General Suharyanto, assessed that the weather modification operations have had a positive impact on flood conditions in Jabodetabek. According to him, water levels in several areas have started to recede, although there are still puddles in certain spots.

“People have gradually returned to their homes to carry out cleanup independently. The weather modification operations will continue until March 11, in accordance with BMKG predictions,” Suharyanto concluded.

With synergy between various agencies and public support, flood management in Jabodetabek is expected to become more effective. This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens and accelerating post-disaster recovery.
