Indonesia Ensures 19th PUIC Conference Runs Safely and Smoothly
Jakarta – Indonesia is ready to hold the 19th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) which will take place on 12-15 May 2025 at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta. The Indonesian House of Representatives ensures the readiness and smooth implementation of the conference which will be attended by parliaments of Islamic countries in the world.
The Indonesian House of Representatives as the organizer believes that solid cooperation among Islamic countries will be a new force to fight for global justice.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera. According to him, it is important to strengthen cooperation between PUIC member countries in building a more peaceful and just future for the Islamic world.
“This is not only a moment of reflection, but also an opportunity to renew our commitment to the principles of peace, justice, human rights, and economic development,” said Mardani.
He also considered it very important to build strong, transparent, and accountable institutions amidst current global challenges, ranging from geopolitical tensions, climate change, to economic uncertainty.
“We believe that solid cooperation among Islamic countries will be a new force to fight for global justice,” he said.
The 19th PUIC session will carry the main theme “PUIC Silver Jubilee – Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillar of Resilience”. The selection of this theme is based on the hope that OIC member countries will not only condemn the actions of other countries, but also focus on building institutional strength and good governance in each country.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Indonesian House of Representatives Indra Iskandar emphasized that the Indonesian House of Representatives is almost 100 percent ready to hold this international conference. According to him, all technical aspects and substance of the event have been prepared thoroughly, including cross-agency coordination to ensure the smooth running of the event.
“In terms of planning, we are very ready. We (have) reconfirmed the technical aspects with related agencies, starting from immigration, customs, Angkasa Pura, to AirNav,” said Indra.
He also said that there was not a single gap that was missed in the preparation process. A series of simulations and checks have been conducted together with the appointed Professional Conference Organizer (PCO).
“On the other hand, this conference will discuss various strategic issues, including solidarity with Palestine. A total of 23 countries have confirmed their attendance, with a total of 279 delegates confirmed to attend. This number is expected to continue to increase, considering that several other countries have expressed their intention to attend, but have not yet given official confirmation,” he said.
The 19th PUIC is expected to be attended by 500 to 600 participants, including delegates and representatives of international organizations. This session is a great opportunity for Indonesia to demonstrate the potential contribution of Indonesian Muslims in building global peace and prosperity. [-red]
