JAKARTA — Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Mardani Ali Sera, confirmed that President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
“God willing, Mr. Prabowo is confirmed to attend, accompanied by Ms. Puan as the host,” said Mardani.
President Prabowo’s presence at this forum of Islamic parliaments is seen as a significant symbol of Indonesia’s commitment to global peace and inclusive governance.
The 19th PUIC Conference, taking place from May 12 to 15, 2025, carries the theme “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience” and will be attended by approximately 450 parliamentarians from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). President Prabowo is expected to deliver an opening speech that will emphasize messages of peace and shared prosperity.
“The message is clear—Indonesia is ready to serve as a bridge for all, toward collective prosperity and shared peace,” Mardani stated.
In the context of global leadership, Prabowo’s attendance underscores Indonesia’s active role in fostering constructive dialogue among Islamic nations, including its potential role as a facilitator in resolving regional conflicts.
This point was also emphasized by Member of Commission I of the DPR RI, Junico Siahaan, who expressed optimism about Indonesia’s potential to mediate the India-Pakistan conflict.
“Indonesia could serve as a bridge to ease tensions between the two countries, especially given its good relations with both Pakistan and India,” said Nico.
In addition to peacebuilding efforts, the forum also discusses the empowerment of women and youth in governance, reflecting Indonesia’s commitment to inclusivity and sustainable development across the Islamic world.
