Indonesia Hosts 19th PUIC, Raising Solidarity of Islamic World Parliaments
Jakarta – Indonesia will host the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) which will take place on 12-15 May 2025 in Jakarta. This event is a strategic momentum for Indonesia to affirm its leadership in strengthening cooperation and strengthening solidarity between parliaments of Islamic countries.
Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Indra Iskandar ensured that all technical aspects and substance of the event have been prepared thoroughly. The Indonesian House of Representatives has also carried out intensive coordination with various related agencies to ensure the smooth running of the high-level forum between parliaments of OIC countries.
“In terms of planning, we are very ready. We (have) reconfirmed the technicalities with related agencies, starting from immigration, customs, Angkasa Pura, to AirNav,” said Indra.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, said that the conference held under the leadership of the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, would be a special moment because it coincided with the 25th anniversary of the founding of PUIC.
“On May 12-15, 2025, Indonesia will host the parliamentary meeting of OIC countries and that this momentum is very meaningful because it also commemorates a quarter of a century of PUIC’s existence,” said Mardani.
Indonesia chose the main theme “Good Governance and Strong Institution” as the main foundation of the conference.
“This theme is not just a slogan, but a reflection of Indonesia’s commitment to inviting OIC countries to strengthen their domestic foundations in order to create a sovereign, independent, and just Islamic world,” he said.
Mardani also emphasized that OIC countries need to build institutional strength and good governance in their respective countries.
“With good governance and strong institutions, OIC countries can become more independent and no longer too dependent on other countries,” he said.
For information, one of the main agendas in the 19th PUIC Conference is a special discussion on the Palestinian issue. In this meaningful momentum, Indonesia wants to encourage OIC countries to take real, effective action.
During the four days of implementation, the conference will cover various important agendas: plenary sessions, standing committee meetings, parliamentary women’s forums, to strategic discussions across issues such as legislative innovation, digital governance, and social inclusion. This is a collaborative forum that brings together parliaments, international organizations, and civil society in one strategic dialogue space. []
