Jakarta — Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Mardani Ali Sera, stated that Indonesia holds a strategic role in advancing women’s issues during the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference, set to take place in 2025.

In the forum, BKSAP is urging OIC member states to place greater emphasis on women’s issues, recognizing their significance within the broader context of Islamic cooperation.

According to Mardani, the primary focus of the forum includes promoting peace and harmony among OIC member states, strengthening concrete cooperation in economic, social, and cultural sectors among Islamic parliaments, and calling for the consolidation of efforts and tangible actions from OIC parliaments in supporting women’s participation.

“The DPR will highlight the issue of women and youth participation—specifically, the roles and involvement of women and youth in Muslim countries. In addition, sustainable development and environmental cooperation among OIC countries will also be key discussion points,” Mardani explained.

He also reported that preparations for the PUIC General Assembly are progressing smoothly, covering all aspects from agenda development and logistics to security. He expressed hope that the PUIC Conference in Indonesia would generate a meaningful impact in strengthening solidarity among Muslim-majority countries.

“This is both an honor and a major responsibility for Indonesia to host the 19th PUIC Conference, especially as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of PUIC’s founding in 1999,” said Mardani.

“We want to ensure that this event is successful, substantive, and brings about real outcomes in strengthening Islamic world solidarity,” he added.

“Carrying the theme ‘Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience’, the 19th PUIC Conference will serve as a strategic platform for dialogue aimed at improving governance, promoting national resilience, and strengthening democratic institutions across OIC member states,” he concluded.
