Joint TNI Task Force Neutralizes Key OPM Figure, Central Papua Stability Strengthened

Puncak Jaya – The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) joint task force has successfully neutralized Nekison Enumbi, also known as Bumi Walo Enumbi, a key figure in the armed separatist movement in Central Papua. The operation, carried out in Ilamburawi District, Puncak Jaya Regency, marks a significant milestone in law enforcement efforts against armed separatist groups that have long threatened the safety of Papuan civilians.
Commander of the Media Task Force under TNI’s Habema Operational Command, Lieutenant Colonel Inf. Iwan Dwi Prihartono, stated that the success of this mission was the result of well-coordinated planning and solid collaboration among units.
“Nekison was a central figure in the OPM (Free Papua Movement) network operating in the Yambi region and was behind numerous violent attacks on both security personnel and civilians,” Iwan said.
Nekison Enumbi, who had a lengthy track record of terror-related acts, was confirmed dead following a gunfight after resisting arrest. Authorities recovered several pieces of evidence at the scene, including bladed weapons, ammunition, and communication devices allegedly used to coordinate OPM activities.
Nekison had been on the Puncak Jaya Police Department’s Most Wanted List (DPO) since April 2024. He was strongly suspected of being involved in multiple shootings targeting police officers and civilians, including an attack on the Puncak Jaya Police Station in January 2025 and the fatal shooting of a retired police officer in April.
He was also linked to the shooting of a motorcycle taxi driver in 2024 and the assault on a logistics truck on a key route in Tingginambut District. These violent acts not only disrupted regional security but also impeded economic activity and essential public services in Papua’s remote areas.
“These crimes have gone beyond targeting authorities — they’ve affected ordinary citizens, educational facilities, and healthcare workers. The group has also been exploiting social media to provoke unrest and spread misinformation,” Iwan explained.
In response, Lieutenant Colonel Iwan firmly urged the public not to be swayed by baseless, provocative online content.
“We call on the community to remain calm. The state is present to safeguard the people, and every citizen has the right to live free from the threats of armed groups,” he concluded.
