Jakarta – The celebration of International Workers’ Day (May Day) 2025 was filled with messages of peace from various elements of the nation, reflecting democratic maturity and the spirit of collaboration in building national welfare.

The General Chair of the National Conscience Movement (GNK), Habib Syakur Ali, called on Indonesian workers to appear as intelligent pioneers of change who are not easily provoked.

“May Day is an important moment to voice workers’ rights, but it must be done in a positive, joyful way, and still maintain unity,” he said.

Secretary General of the Confederation of Indonesian Prosperous Trade Unions (KSBSI), Dedi Hardianto, emphasized support for the Prabowo Subianto government’s policies, especially in opening up space for dialogue for workers in the labor legislation process.

“If our country supports it. As long as the government’s policies are good, then we will support it. The government must open space for workers to make laws,” he added.

From the security side, Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto reminded the importance of maintaining the momentum of May Day so that it remains conducive.

“We must maintain the momentum of May Day as best we can. Don’t let there be any security disturbances that could tarnish the image of this celebration,” he appealed.

The spirit of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere was also voiced by the Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council of the National Workers Union (DPD-SPN) of Banten Province, who invited workers to commemorate May Day with dignity and order.

“Let us commemorate and celebrate May Day 2025 in a dignified, peaceful and meaningful way,” he said.

Political observer from Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta, Dr. Nurmadi Harsa Sumarta, assessed that the wise attitude of the workers in the May Day action was very crucial in maintaining the national investment climate.

“Demonstrations that are not managed wisely can cause a domino effect, including the departure of investors. We must guard this together for the sake of national welfare,” Nurmadi stressed.

With the spirit of collaboration and peace, May Day 2025 is expected to be a momentum to strengthen workers’ welfare without sacrificing national stability and unity.[]
