Jakarta – In the first 100 days of the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, one of the flagship programs that has been highlighted is the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG).

This program is designed to ensure that school children throughout Indonesia have access to free nutritious food, as an effort to improve the quality of life and health of the nation’s next generation.

President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the synergy between the central and regional governments in implementing the MBG program.

“I am grateful for this cooperation. All ministries and institutions have worked hard to ensure that the implementation of this program runs smoothly. Synergy with local governments, starting from governors, regents, mayors, to village officials is very important in realizing the success of the MBG program,” said President Prabowo.

In the initial stage of the program launch which began on January 6, 2025, MBG has reached 650,000 school children. President Prabowo targets this program to reach 3 million children by April 2025, increasing to 6 million children by August 2025, and reaching 15 million children by September 2025.

“By the end of 2025, we are targeting all Indonesian children to be able to enjoy free nutritious food,” added President Prabowo.

Member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives, Robert J. Kardinal, also appreciated the government’s quick steps in implementing this program. He encouraged regional governments to utilize APBD funds and village funds to support the success of the program.

“Regional governments must play an active role in this collaboration. Optimizing regional budgets, including village funds, can be a strategic step in achieving the goals of the MBG program,” said Robert J. Kardinal.

Robert also emphasized that the MBG program has enormous benefits. “Focusing on basic needs such as nutritious food will improve the quality of life of the community and create a healthier and more productive generation,” he said.

With a budget of IDR 71 trillion from the APBN to support this program, collaboration with APBD and village funds can further strengthen the government’s fiscal capacity. The program also provides additional benefits in the form of improving the regional economy through the utilization of local resources for food procurement.

The MBG program, which is one of the main priorities of the Prabowo-Gibran government, reflects the government’s commitment to building a quality next generation. The government is optimistic that with strong synergy between the central and regional governments, this program will have a real positive impact on communities throughout the country.
