National Situation Remains Stable, Public Urged Not to Be Provoked by ‘Indonesia Gelap’ Actions

JAKARTA — The national situation remains stable and under control. The government continues to ensure that the policies implemented are effectively maintaining the welfare of the public.
Therefore, the call for mass actions under the banner of ‘Indonesia Gelap’ is deemed baseless and only has the potential to cause unnecessary panic among the public.
Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communication Office, conveyed President Prabowo’s message that there will be no cuts to operational costs for universities, the Kartu Indonesia Pintar (KIP) Kuliah, or scholarships.
The President, added Hasan Nasbi, has also instructed that no budget cuts should be made in the education sector.
“He also clearly told our friends in the academic community that the president is firm—there will be no reduction in the operational costs of higher education, KIP Kuliah, or scholarships,” said Hasan.
In line with this, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati assured that the budget efficiency measures will not lead to layoffs of honorarium staff in ministries and agencies.
In a press conference at the DPR RI Building, she emphasized that no honorarium workers would face job termination due to these policies.
“We assure you that the efficiency measures or the restructuring of ministry/agency budgets will not impact honorarium workers,” she stated.
Furthermore, the national economy remains stable with inflation controlled within the range of 1.5% to 3.5%.
Ramadhan Wafid Mustafa, a senior statistician from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in Nunukan, explained that inflation within this range does not significantly affect the public’s purchasing power.
“So, what affects purchasing power is if inflation is uncontrollable, for example, below 1.5% or above 3.5%,” he explained.
With the economy in a stable condition and the government’s policies effectively implemented, the ‘Indonesia Gelap’ demonstrations are only likely to create unrest.
The public is urged not to be provoked and to continue with their daily activities as usual, as shopping malls, music concerts, and other economic activities continue to operate normally.
