JAKARTA – The government has shown a strong commitment in addressing the issue of Tuberculosis (TB) through the launch of the National TB Alert Movement, which focuses on strengthening the role of villages and subdistricts in the prevention and control of this infectious disease. This initiative aligns with the Program Hasil Terbaik Cepat (PHTC) under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration and aims to accelerate the elimination of TB before 2030.

This movement not only symbolizes the government’s seriousness but also encourages cross-sectoral synergy to establish an early warning system at the community level. The official launch was conducted by the Ministry of Health on May 9, 2025, at the Rambutan Subdistrict Office in East Jakarta, and was widely broadcast through national television and digital channels.

Senior Expert at the Presidential Communications Office, Hariqo Wibawa Satria, stated that this movement is part of the government’s systematic efforts to protect the community from the threat of this deadly disease.

“Through the Joint Movement for Strengthening TB-Alert Villages and Subdistricts, we hope that multi-party collaboration can accelerate early detection, improve access to treatment, and eliminate the stigma against TB patients,” said Hariqo Wibawa Satria.

This effort reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation in tackling a health challenge that remains the second highest in the world, after India. Every year, over 125,000 lives in Indonesia are lost due to TB. The government targets detecting 90% of TB cases and achieving a treatment success rate above 80% by 2025.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ribka Haluk, emphasized the importance of regional government involvement in fully supporting this movement.

“Regional governments must immediately accommodate this movement, both in planning and in budget allocation. The handling of TB already has clear legal backing through Presidential Regulation No. 67 of 2021,” Ribka Haluk asserted.

She also expressed appreciation for the regions that have been responsive, including the Rambutan Subdistrict, as a concrete example of good practices in handling TB at the local level.

Through area-based strategies such as contact investigations, stigma elimination, and improvements in healthcare services and transportation, the National TB Alert Movement is believed to be the clear path towards a TB-free Indonesia. The combination of bold policies and public participation is a strong foundation to realize an inclusive and sustainable national health vision.
