Opening of the 19th PUIC: Indonesia Calls for Humanitarian Corridors to Realize Peace

Jakarta – The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) officially launched the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (May 14).
Indonesia expressed deep concern over the impact of ongoing conflicts in several OIC member states and reaffirmed its active role in promoting peaceful solutions and protecting the interests and safety of Indonesian citizens in conflict zones.
Previously, Deputy Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of DPR RI, Ravindra Airlangga, held a bilateral meeting with the Yemeni Parliamentary Delegation on the sidelines of the 19th PUIC Conference, which runs from May 12 to 15, 2025.
“The DPR RI will continue to advocate for the full opening of humanitarian corridors and provide full support for peace efforts,” Ravindra asserted.
Speaker of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, stated that hosting the PUIC Conference in Indonesia is not merely an administrative honor but a strategic moment for Indonesia to reaffirm its role as a driving force of democratic, inclusive, and solution-oriented diplomacy in the Islamic world.
“This conference serves as a platform for the parliaments of Islamic countries to exchange ideas and build mutual understanding in addressing various global issues, from humanitarian conflicts and economic inequality to environmental crises,” said Puan Maharani.
She emphasized the importance of solidarity among Islamic countries in facing global challenges.
“We hope this conference will produce concrete resolutions that contribute positively to peace and progress in the Islamic world, while also strengthening cooperation among OIC member states,” Puan added.
Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, remains committed to enhancing multilateral cooperation based on moderate, inclusive, and solution-oriented Islamic values.
PUIC Secretary-General Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass previously expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s warm hospitality as host. Participants acknowledged Indonesia’s strategic role in strengthening the position of Islamic countries on the global stage.
The four-day conference is expected to produce a number of key resolutions in areas such as global peace and security, sustainable economic development, youth empowerment, women’s issues, and the handling of humanitarian crises.
