JAKARTA — Under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia, as host country, remains firmly committed to strengthening inter-parliamentary synergy among OIC member states and enhancing the role of parliamentary diplomacy as a key pillar of international relations.

The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) has been entrusted with the important mandate of organizing the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) in 2025.

This international event is attended by speakers and parliamentary delegations from PUIC member countries, as well as several observer countries and organizations.

Held at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, from May 12 to 15, 2025, the conference stands as one of Indonesia’s key international agendas, reinforcing its strategic position in multilateral forums.

Beyond that, the event also reflects the international community’s trust in Indonesia’s national parliamentary leadership.

This year’s conference is particularly special as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of PUIC’s founding in 1999—its silver jubilee celebration.

No fewer than 450 delegates from 38 member countries are in attendance, alongside 10 observer nations, underscoring the scale and significance of the forum in reinforcing the role of parliaments across the Islamic world.

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, highlighted the critical importance of unity among parliaments in addressing global challenges.

“This union of Islamic parliaments was born out of a shared understanding that the Islamic world needs a platform for cooperation among legislative institutions to face global challenges and defend the interests of Muslims everywhere,” he stated.

Given the rising number of geopolitical conflicts around the world, President Prabowo further emphasized the urgency of inter-parliamentary cooperation in confronting these issues together.

“In today’s world, marked by polarization, conflict, and great power rivalries, this organization’s presence is increasingly vital, relevant, and urgent,” he said.

Touching on the central theme of the 19th PUIC, the Head of State noted its strategic significance.

“Without good governance, without strong institutions, without honest leaders and public officials devoted to their people, a country can never achieve resilience, let alone competitiveness,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, called on all Islamic countries to unite and further strengthen parliamentary relations.

“The PUIC 2025 silver jubilee can be a momentum for all of us to build and enhance inter-parliamentary cooperation among OIC member states, as we work together to face our increasingly complex common challenges,” she concluded. (*)
