JAKARTA – The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) has been taking place since Monday, May 12, 2025, at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) building in Senayan, Jakarta. This time, Indonesia is hosting the conference under the overarching theme: “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience.”

Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Mardani Ali Sera, stated that OIC member parliaments adopted this theme through a Standing Committee meeting.

“This moment underscores Indonesia’s strategic role as a center of parliamentary diplomacy within the Islamic world and reaffirms the Indonesian Parliament’s commitment to strengthening good governance and robust institutions as key foundations for global resilience,” Mardani said.

Delegates from OIC member states participating in the Standing Committee meeting also discussed issues related to parliamentary transparency, accountability, and global challenges including the conflict in Palestine, climate change, and the ongoing crisis of public trust in state institutions.

“The PUIC session serves as a crucial platform for member states to unify their perspectives and reinforce solidarity,” Mardani added.

A key point of emphasis was Indonesia’s stance on the conflict in Palestine.

“Indonesia urges all PUIC members to take concrete action through parliamentary diplomacy, humanitarian solidarity, and support for international legal processes in holding perpetrators accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel,” Mardani asserted.

In addition to the forum agenda, a bilateral meeting between Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives Indra Iskandar and Secretary General of the Bahraini Parliament Mohamed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain drew significant attention. During the meeting, Bahrain expressed its commitment to building concrete cooperation with Indonesia.

“They conveyed their desire to further facilitate relations between the Indonesian and Bahraini Parliaments, through both in-person meetings and digital communication. This is a positive opportunity we intend to follow up on,” said Indra.

Key focus areas of the cooperation include policy research exchanges related to women and children, as well as institutional capacity-building. Indra noted that the Indonesia–Bahrain Bilateral Cooperation Group will serve as the main liaison in developing this strategic partnership.

The PUIC Conference is scheduled to continue until May 15, 2025.
