JAKARTA – The 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) has been taking place since Monday, May 12, 2025, at the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Building in Senayan, Jakarta. This year, Indonesia is hosting the event under the overarching theme: “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience.”

Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the DPR RI, Mardani Ali Sera, stated that OIC parliament members adopted the agenda themed “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience” through a Standing Committee meeting.

“This moment marks Indonesia’s strategic role as a center of parliamentary diplomacy in the Islamic world and reaffirms the DPR RI’s commitment to strengthening the principles of good governance and robust institutions as key foundations for global resilience,” said Mardani.

OIC member states participating in the Standing Committee meeting also discussed parliamentary transparency, accountability, and global challenges such as the conflict in Palestine, climate change, and the crisis of public trust in state institutions.

“The PUIC session serves as a vital platform for member countries to unite their perspectives and reinforce solidarity,” Mardani added.

A key point of emphasis came from the DPR RI’s stance on the Palestinian conflict.

“Indonesia urges all PUIC members to take concrete actions through parliamentary diplomacy, humanitarian solidarity, and support for international legal processes to hold perpetrators accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel,” Mardani stressed.

In addition to the forum agenda, a bilateral meeting between DPR RI Secretary General Indra Iskandar and the Secretary General of the Bahraini Parliament, Mohamed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, drew notable attention. During the meeting, Bahrain expressed its commitment to establishing concrete cooperation with Indonesia.

“They conveyed their desire to further facilitate relations between the Indonesian and Bahraini Parliaments, either through direct meetings or digital communication. This is clearly a positive opportunity that we will follow up on,” said Indra.

Key issues in the cooperation include the exchange of policy studies on maternal and child welfare as well as institutional capacity building. Indra noted that the Indonesia–Bahrain Bilateral Cooperation Group will serve as the main liaison in developing this strategic collaboration.

The PUIC Conference is scheduled to run until May 15, 2025.
