Peaceful Action to Celebrate May Day 2025, Momentum to Strengthen Workers’ Unity and Welfare

Banda Aceh – Welcoming International Labor Day or May Day which is commemorated every May 1, various parties appeal for its implementation to be carried out peacefully, orderly, and constructively. This celebration is not only an important momentum to voice the aspirations of workers, but also an event to strengthen solidarity and maintain national stability amidst increasingly complex global challenges.
The Chairman of the Banda Aceh City People’s Representative Council, Irwansyah ST, emphasized the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during the May Day commemoration. He appreciated the spirit of workers in fighting for their rights, but reminded that these aspirations must be conveyed in an orderly framework and not disrupt public order.
“Conduciveness is key. Peaceful and organized actions will reflect the maturity of the labor movement and strengthen public and stakeholder trust in their struggle,” said Irwansyah.
The same thing was conveyed by the Chairman of the All Indonesian Workers Union (SPSI) of South Aceh Regency, Muhammad Dini, who emphasized that the May Day celebration must be carried out in a conducive, safe, and orderly atmosphere. According to him, this is the right time to strengthen labor solidarity and voice aspirations constructively.
“May Day is not an event for chaos, but a democratic space to convey aspirations responsibly. Disorderly actions will only harm the workers themselves,” he said.
Amid the challenging dynamics of the global economy, Muhammad Dini also invited all parties—workers, entrepreneurs, and the government—to build close collaboration. He emphasized that May Day should be a symbol of togetherness and collaboration for the sake of achieving shared prosperity.
“May Day is Collaboration Day. That spirit must continue to be encouraged. Let us knit togetherness between workers, employers, and the government to improve national welfare and productivity. Economic stability can only be maintained if the atmosphere remains safe and community activities are not disrupted,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI), Nany Afrida, highlighted the importance of maintaining order in the entire series of May Day actions. She said that May Day is an important space to voice the interests of labor groups, including journalists, but it must still be carried out peacefully and without provocation.
“Don’t let the important message of the May Day action be drowned out by unnecessary incidents. Peace and order are the main values that must be put forward,” said Nany.
Figures and stakeholders agree that May Day should be a positive stage that strengthens collective spirit and does not hinder the wheels of the community’s economy. Thus, the commemoration of International Labor Day will be a reflection of the maturity of the labor movement as well as strengthening national unity in order to face global challenges together.
