Polri and BNN Continue to Uncover International Drug Networks

Jakarta – Law enforcement authorities remain committed to eradicating drug trafficking by dismantling various international drug distribution networks. This effort aligns with the government’s policy, particularly in supporting the Asta Cita program of the Prabowo-Gibran administration, which focuses on combating drug-related crimes.
In the first two months of 2025, the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri) and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) successfully thwarted several drug transactions involving international syndicates, including the Golden Crescent and Golden Triangle groups, which are known as the main drug suppliers in Asia.
The Head of Bareskrim Polri, Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, revealed that his team had arrested seven individuals suspected of being involved in the drug network of kingpin Fredy Pratama.
“These seven arrested individuals consist of four foreign nationals and three Indonesian citizens. They were apprehended in four different cases, with confiscated evidence including 35.3 kilograms of methamphetamine and 1,880 ecstasy pills,” Wahyu stated.
“The total number of drug cases uncovered in the first two months of 2025 reached 6,881 cases, with 9,586 individuals named as suspects. These suspects come from the United States, Germany, Turkey, Australia, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, India, and Malaysia. Meanwhile, the total value of confiscated narcotics, psychotropics, and dangerous substances during this period reached IDR 2.7 trillion,” he added.
On the other hand, the Riau Regional Police also successfully uncovered an international drug network. The Director of Narcotics at the Riau Regional Police, Police Commissioner Putu Yudha Prawira, stated that the Opsnal Team of Sub-Directorate 3 of the Riau Regional Police’s Narcotics Directorate managed to arrest a man carrying 1 kilogram of methamphetamine in Bengkalis Regency.
“The narcotics were planned to be delivered to Padang, West Sumatra, as part of our intensive efforts to break the drug distribution chain in the region,” said Yudha.
Furthermore, the Head of the Jambi Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP Jambi), Police Brigadier General Wisnu Handoko, also reported the success of a collaboration between BNNP Jambi and BNNP North Sumatra in dismantling an inter-provincial drug network.
“From this operation, we managed to seize methamphetamine with a total value of IDR 25 billion. This success highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating the rapidly evolving drug trade,” Wisnu explained.
Wisnu also urged the public not to hesitate in providing information if they notice any suspicious activities related to drug distribution.
“The narcotics agency has limitations and cannot work alone without public support. We are striving to mobilize the community and strengthen networks to assist BNNP in uncovering drug trafficking,” he concluded.
The success in uncovering international drug networks demonstrates the government’s commitment to creating a drug-free Indonesia. The government and law enforcement agencies continue to work hard to minimize the negative impacts of drugs, which are increasingly widespread in society.
