President Prabowo Subianto conducted a state visit to India, where he emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation, particularly with India as a strategic partner in the region.

The visit was marked by several significant agreements spanning multiple sectors.

In a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Hyderabad, New Delhi, President Prabowo reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation in various strategic fields.

“We have discussed various cooperation opportunities, ranging from trade, investment, to artificial intelligence (AI). We have agreed to expand these relations for mutual benefit,” said Prabowo.

The President also expressed his gratitude for India’s support regarding Indonesia’s membership in BRICS.

The membership, which officially began on January 6, 2025, is seen as a crucial step in enhancing global stability and strengthening regional cooperation.

“We highly appreciate India’s support, and we are confident that BRICS will be an important platform for fostering closer international cooperation,” he added.

Beyond focusing on the economic sector, President Prabowo also highlighted the importance of collaboration in defense.

During the visit, he announced that Indonesia had ratified a defense cooperation agreement with India.

A high-level defense delegation will soon be sent to further strengthen coordination.

“We are optimistic that this step will lead to significant progress in the bilateral relations between our two countries,” he further stated.

The visit also resulted in a key agreement in the cultural sector.

Indonesian Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, signed the Cultural Exchange Program, which will run from 2025 to 2028.

Through this agreement, Indonesia and India have committed to collaborating in various fields, including performing arts, language and literature, as well as cultural heritage conservation.

“This program will be a major step in strengthening the cultural ties between our two countries, which have shared a long history since the 4th century AD,” Fadli explained.

Fadli also expressed hope that this cultural collaboration would serve as a strong foundation for cooperation in other sectors.

One of the main focuses is the repatriation of cultural artifacts, which has long been a priority.

“We will continue to encourage dialogue and joint research to return cultural objects as a form of respect for history and cultural diplomacy,” he stated.

Additionally, President Prabowo’s visit was accompanied by more than a hundred delegates from Indonesia’s business community.
