President Prabowo Officially Opens the 19th PUIC Conference, Calls for Unity and Prosperity of the Islamic World

Jakarta – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, officially opened the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) in Jakarta on Wednesday (May 14). In his remarks, President Prabowo underscored the importance of solidarity and good governance across the Islamic world.
According to the President, PUIC was born out of a collective awareness of the Islamic world’s need for a parliamentary platform capable of addressing global challenges and defending the interests of the ummah.
“Since its establishment in 1999, PUIC has been determined to serve as a bridge for parliamentary diplomacy that strengthens solidarity, upholds justice, and provides solutions to the world’s pressing problems,” Prabowo stated.
He stressed that amid today’s global climate of conflict and great-power rivalries, the presence of PUIC is becoming increasingly relevant and urgent. Furthermore, he emphasized that Indonesia’s Constitution, the 1945 Constitution, clearly mandates the country’s active role in fostering world peace based on justice and independence.
Commenting on the conference theme, “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,” the President noted its strong relevance to the challenges currently facing the Islamic world, including poverty, corruption, hunger, and educational inequality.
“Without clean governance and strong institutions, we cannot build the resilience and competitiveness of our nations,” Prabowo said.
He explained that Indonesia is currently focused on bureaucratic reform, human resource development, food and energy self-sufficiency, and the mastery of science and technology.
“If we are weak, we cannot help others. We can only truly help Palestine if we are united and strong,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, highlighted in her address the enduring relevance of the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference and the spirit of the New Emerging Forces in the current context of PUIC. According to her, the collective spirit of OIC member states should serve as the foundation for building a more just and humane global order.
“PUIC parliamentarians must work together to establish political, economic, social, and cultural systems that benefit both the Islamic world and humanity as a whole,” she said. Puan added that PUIC’s 25-year journey must now be further strengthened by unity and solidarity among its members.
“We are strong because we are united, and we are united because we are strong,” she affirmed.
The overall message conveyed at the conference’s opening reinforces Indonesia’s position as the largest Muslim-majority country actively engaged in global diplomacy and the broader struggle of the ummah. Through a commitment to clean governance, strong institutions, and solidarity among governments and parliaments of Islamic countries, PUIC is expected to serve as a transformative force toward a more just and civilized global order.
