President Prabowo: Optimizing Artificial Intelligence is Key to Achieving Food Self-Sufficiency and Poverty Alleviation
Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and high technology is a key strategy in accelerating poverty alleviation and achieving national food self-sufficiency. President Prabowo made this statement at the second session of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM), held at the Hwabaek International Convention Center (HICO), Gyeongju, Republic of Korea.
“We are entering a new era marked by advances in high technology, particularly artificial intelligence. At the same time, we are also facing the challenge of demographic change, which demands innovation in development policies and strategies,” said President Prabowo.
The President emphasized the Indonesian government’s commitment to eradicating poverty and hunger through rapid, measurable, and technology-based measures. According to the President, these two issues are top priorities on the national development agenda.
“Indonesia’s most pressing task right now is to eradicate poverty and hunger as quickly as possible. We are focusing all our efforts on this, and we believe the use of artificial intelligence can significantly benefit the acceleration of achieving this goal,” he emphasized.
The President explained that the application of AI has shown tangible results, particularly in the agricultural sector. Through precision agriculture technology, national food productivity has increased significantly, enabling Indonesia to achieve self-sufficiency in rice and corn faster than the government’s initial target.
“We are now using AI in the agricultural sector to develop a modern, precision farming system. As a result, Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in rice and corn faster than planned,” said President Prabowo.
Furthermore, the President highlighted the importance of international collaboration in addressing various cross-border challenges such as smuggling, corruption, drug trafficking, and online gambling, which have the potential to harm the national economy. He emphasized the need for cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen digital economic governance and protect human resources.
“Indonesia is ready to participate in all APEC initiatives aimed at increasing capacity in technology and education. We are also committed to empowering small businesses and strengthening the national health system in the face of demographic change,” the President stated.
In closing his statement, President Prabowo emphasized that mastery of technology and innovation is the main foundation of national progress. He called for close collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region to ensure technological independence in the future.
“We must ensure control over our own technological future. Through close cooperation within APEC, I am confident we can achieve that goal,” he concluded.
