President Prabowo Pushes Forward the 3 Million Homes Program, Partners with Private Sector and Banking

Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his commitment to realizing the 3 million housing program. The significant financial needs and availability of land are the main challenges in implementing this program.
Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, stated that the housing backlog is high, with 12.7 million units, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) data in 2023.
“This means there are still many of our brothers and sisters who do not have decent homes. Therefore, we are encouraging the private sector to contribute, including industries that build housing for their employees,” said Minister Maruarar.
To address these challenges, the government is inviting the private sector, developers, and industries to participate in building homes for the people.
“I encourage the private sector, developers, and entrepreneurs from other sectors to join together and cooperate to build homes for the people,” he added.
In efforts to ensure the success of this program, the Head of the Housing Task Force (Satgas), Hashim Djojohadikusumo, revealed that the government would assign State-Owned Banks (Himbara) to support housing financing.
“I heard there will be an order to support this. I heard this from decision-makers,” Hashim said.
In addition to state-owned banks, the program will also receive support from foreign investors and Bank Indonesia. Hashim mentioned that the demand for housing in Indonesia is very high, so this program could be the solution for 37 million families in need of decent housing.
“In Indonesia, the funds are available, but they are scattered. Some are in BPJS, State Bonds (SBN), and Bank Indonesia. Our liquidity is actually very large but is not being used for the real economy,” he explained.
Hashim also noted that Bank Indonesia is ready to release Rp130 trillion to support financing for this program, although the distribution mechanism is still under discussion.
Besides the construction of new homes, some companies have begun contributing by assisting in the renovation of uninhabitable homes (Runtilahu) for low-income communities.
Head of Industrial Estate Wilmar, Byron Oswald, stated that Wilmar Group has been running a program to repair uninhabitable homes in Serang, Banten, since 2024.
“We hope this program will have a significant impact and create a multiplier effect for the community,” Byron said.
This renovation includes the construction of sanitation facilities, improvement of air circulation, strengthening of building structures, and roof replacement. Additionally, the program also helps build kitchens and adds rooms so that the homes can be classified as healthy and habitable dwellings.
This 3 million homes program is also expected to be used to relocate residents living in flood-prone areas.
With the involvement of the government, private sector, banking, and foreign investors, the 3 million homes program, which is part of President Prabowo’s campaign promise, is expected to run effectively and sustainably.
