President Prabowo Takes Over Dispute of 4 Islands, Public Asked to Remain Calm and Trust the Process

Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his commitment to resolving the dispute over ownership of four islands between Aceh and North Sumatra Provinces.

This step has received broad support from the Indonesian House of Representatives, which hopes that this resolution will be carried out objectively, calmly, and not dragged into the political realm.

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad revealed that President Prabowo had decided to take over the issue after communicating with parliament.

“The results of the communication between the Indonesian House of Representatives and the President of the Republic of Indonesia, that the President took over the issue of island boundaries which is the dynamic between Aceh Province and North Sumatra Province,” said Dasco.

President Prabowo’s quick steps were also appreciated by Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dede Yusuf. He stated that his party had coordinated with the Ministry of Home Affairs to trace the origins of the administration of the four islands.

“I appreciate Mr. Prabowo’s steps to make this issue the Central Government’s stance. Because if we examine the various data that came to us, the arguments are equally strong,” said Dede.

According to Dede, the certainty of geographical status is very important because it will affect governance, state recognition of residents, and administrative legality.

He said that both Aceh and North Sumatra Provinces have strong arguments based on history and territorial proximity.

“We have also given time, the Government must mediate this problem again with various parties. So don’t drag it into a broader political realm, it must be state policy,” he said.

In a separate place, the Deputy Regent of Aceh Singkil, H. Hamzah Sulaiman, also stated that the resolution process is underway.

“Currently, the problem of the four islands is being discussed by the Aceh Government and the Central Government. We trust that this process will run according to the corridors of administration, law, and governance,” he said.

The Government emphasized its commitment to maintaining regional sovereignty and peace between regions, while continuing to prioritize fair and solution-oriented dialogue.**
