Singapore — The state visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Singapore marked a new chapter in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. In a series of official agendas held at Parliament House, Singapore, President Prabowo witnessed the signing of a number of strategic memorandums of understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Singapore.

President Prabowo’s arrival was greeted directly by the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who gave a warm and respectful welcome. President Tharman appreciated Prabowo’s presence on his first state visit, while also reminiscing about the closeness and good relations that have long existed between Prabowo and Singapore.

“Thank you for honoring us with your visit. We are looking forward to it, but I must say that you are an old friend of Singapore. You know us very well,” said President Tharman in his remarks.

The highlight of this visit was the holding of a high-level Leader’s Retreat meeting that brought together President Prabowo with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong. In the forum, the two leaders discussed various strategic issues, including economic cooperation, clean energy, defense, and food security. The meeting resulted in 19 cross-sector cooperation agreements.

“In my opinion, this Leader’s Retreat was very productive and very successful. We held a very productive meeting, one-on-one, and we produced 19 results in many cooperation sectors in this year’s retreat,” said President Prabowo in a press conference after the meeting.

Also present at the event was the Indonesian Minister of Law and Human Rights, Supratman Andi Agtas, who accompanied President Prabowo directly in the entire series of meetings. He explained that a number of MoUs signed included cooperation in the development of environmentally friendly energy, including clean electricity trade, cross-border carbon capture and storage, and the development of a green industrial area in the Riau Islands Province.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding was also agreed in the fields of food security and agricultural technology, including a young farmer development program and the exchange of best practices in the agricultural sector.

“Regarding all these MoUs, the Ministry of Law will certainly provide support, both related to Danantara, ESDM, Housing and also Food,” said Supratman.

This state visit is considered an important momentum to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries which have been closely established. In addition to expanding the scope of cooperation, this step also shows President Prabowo’s commitment to encouraging active diplomacy in the region and strengthening Indonesia’s strategic position amidst regional and global geopolitical dynamics.

The agenda of this visit is also a strong signal of the seriousness of the Indonesian government in realizing an inclusive and sustainable economic transformation, as well as establishing close collaboration with strategic partners such as Singapore in the fields of clean energy, defense, and human resource development based on low-carbon technology.

With the concrete results produced during this visit, Indonesia and Singapore are increasingly demonstrating their roles as solid and visionary regional partners towards a more stable, prosperous, and highly competitive future for the region.
