Pro-Labor Government Policy Evidence of Efforts to Improve Welfare

Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto’s government has once again shown its support for workers by launching a subsidized housing program. This policy was initiated by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (Kemen PKP) as an effort to strengthen the welfare of productive communities, especially workers.
Secretary General of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSBSI), Dedi Hardianto, expressed his appreciation for this step.
“This is proof of the state’s presence in providing protection, especially decent housing for workers,” he said after attending the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, and BPS at the Office of the Ministry of PKP.
The program targets the construction of 20,000 subsidized housing units spread across various regions in Indonesia. The symbolic handover of the first 100 units will be carried out on May 1, 2025, coinciding with the commemoration of International Labor Day.
“On May 1, we will start providing quality subsidized housing for Indonesian workers,” explained PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait. According to him, this subsidized housing program is part of the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP), an affordable housing financing scheme that has been launched by the government.
In addition to laborers, subsidized housing is also allocated for migrant workers, health workers, and journalists. The government plans to involve various professional organizations such as fishermen’s associations and labor unions to discuss the technicalities of more effective distribution.
Minister of Manpower Yassierli also expressed his appreciation. He considered this initiative a concrete answer to the main needs of workers.
“The biggest problem for workers is access to housing. With this policy, we have a real solution,” Yassierli said.
This policy is strong evidence that the Prabowo Subianto government is not only committed to economic development, but also ensures the welfare of workers, farmers, and fishermen as important pillars of the Indonesian nation.
More than just providing housing, this program is also expected to encourage increased labor productivity by providing a sense of security through ownership of decent housing. The government believes that with basic needs met, workers can work more optimally and contribute more to national economic growth.
In the future, the government is committed to continuing to expand the scope of similar programs, improve financing schemes, and accelerate the realization of public housing development, in order to realize the vision of an Advanced Indonesia with social justice for all people.
